WOW.

Recent 4X5 black and whites by Michael Evnen. I am completely transfixed with these. Some of the portraiture reminds me of the work of Luis Gonzales Palma, a Guatemalan photographer that had a show at the Sheldon a few years ago. One of the main concepts he explored in the body of work that I saw was the "gaze"--the intimate relationship between the subject and the photographer and in turn the viewer expressed through the eyes of the model. The eyes of these subjects are so direct, honest, and penetrating. The shallow depth of field paired with the super high resolution is absolutely astounding. WOW.
